History Steltman

Steltman Juwelier has been located in The Hague since 1917. In that year, Johannes Steltman opened his jewelry store 'Joaillerie Artistique' at Noordeinde 42a. From 1920, Steltman designed a beautiful collection of jewelry in his own studio, with which he achieved the same level of quality as the big names in the jewelry industry, such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Boucheron.

One of his most famous works is the silver tea set designed for the World Exhibition in Paris in 1925, which has an extremely modern, organic shape and a distinctly artisanal finish. In 1959, Steltman designed a watch with brilliant-cut diamonds for the 50th birthday of then Queen Juliana.

Several of Steltman's creations have been exhibited in Dutch museums and collectors are still looking for his jewellery designs.

a real family business

In 1961, the jewelry company was continued by Willem Bakker, later succeeded by his son. In the late sixties, Steltman Juwelier moved to Paleisstraat. In 1973, Amsterdam Jeweler John van der Vet took over the management. Steltman moved to Kneuterdijk 2a.

Steltman Juwelier has been owned by Fred Brom since 1977. In 1990, the store moved to its current stately location at Plaats 26. Brom continues the tradition of handmade jewellery and Steltman also specialises in diamonds and coloured gemstones. A number of high-quality international brands such as Pomellato, Mattioli Gioielli and Seaman Schepps New York are also added to the collection. Complicated mechanical watches, mostly of Swiss make, also get a prominent place in the store.

Steltman Watches opens its doors

The demand for mechanical watches grew to such an extent that it was decided to open a second location, specialising in mechanical watches, mostly Swiss-made and of very high quality. In September 1999, Steltman Watches opened its doors at Noordeinde 15. The jewellery and watch studio were also established in the same building. In 2015, Steltman Watches moved to a large building at Plaats 16.

Since the opening of Steltman Watches in 1999, Andrew and Reinier Brom, the second generation of Broms, have also been active within Steltman. Andrew now runs the daily management of Steltman Watches and Reinier is responsible for the jewellery workshop as a designer/goldsmith.
